Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the apparent response time to a half and to obtain longer life of second display function by using, in a system in which reaction of display electrode is reverse to that of the opposite electrode and coloring and decoloring of these electrodes take place in a reverse manner, the second display picture element as the display electrode or the opposite electrode. CONSTITUTION:A display picture element 11 is applied with a positive voltage, while another display picture element 12 is applied with negative voltage, by means of a switch 14. In consequence, the picture element 11 is decolored due to an oxidation reaction whereas, in the picture element 12, a coloring takes place due to a reducing reaction. Then, the switch 14 is opened while another switch 15 is closed to apply positive voltage and negative voltage to the picture elements 12 and a picture elements 13, respectively. In consequence, the display on the picture element 12 is extinguished while a display appears on the picture element 13 due to the oxidation reaction and the reducing reaction, respectively. For instance, the hour and minute display making use of ECD is effected by a digital display employing 7 segments. There are provided 12 (twelve) display picture elements 16 to 27 around the digital display to make a display of second at each 5sec.
