Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the number of keys and the space of their arrangement, by outputting a different code signal each time a mode key is turned off or on.
CONSTITUTION: When a mode key 5c is turned on, a control circuit 9 outputs signals Xs and Ys to a row selecting circuit 7 and a column selecting circuit 8 to scan selectively intersections of row lines 3aW3f and column lines 4aW4g which correspond to the key 5c, and a weak signal Ss is detected by a detecting circuit 10 and inputted to the circuit 9. The circuit 9 reads a code signal Cs, which corresponds to the key 5c, in a memory 11 with the signal Ss, and then outputs the signal Cs as a mode-in code signal MI to a CRT2. The flag 12 of the CRT12 is changed from a 0 to a 1 with the signal M1 and display characters in a column of a mode-in side are selected on the CRT.
