Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce time for seaming and simplify the apparatus by applying two- step benging to a flange at two, large and small, radii of curvature by forming grooves of upper and lower dies and making rolling in and tightening by pressing with one upper die.
CONSTITUTION: A body flange 12 and top and bottom plate flanges 22 are superposed and seamed by the first and second roll-shaped upper dies 41, 51 having a lower die 32 that has a cylindrical forming face and forming grooves 42, 52 that open to the forming face 33 of the lower die 32 and extend along circumferential direction. The top and bottom plate flange 22 is bent by the first upper die 41 until its tip reaches the body flange 12. Next, it is bent about 90° to circular arc form by the second upper die 52, and rolled at a radius of curvature smaller than that of bending. Such bending is repeated, and the body flange 12 and top and bottom plate flange are seamed so that they are superposed. Then, the seamed part is pressed to the bottom of the forming groove 52 of the second upper die which is parallel to the forming face 33 of the lower die.
