Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a vaccine useful for the prevention of leucocytozoonosis, and containing an antigenic component composed of inactivated schizont formed by inoculating sprorozoite of Leucoytozoon caulleryi to a fertilized chicken egg.
CONSTITUTION: An inactivated vaccine for chicken leucocytozoonosis which is a hemacytozoonal infectious disease caused by the protozoan belonging to Leucocytozoidae family, is prepared by (1) inoculating the sprozoite of Leucocytozoon caulleri which is the pathogenic protozoa of the disease to the chorioallantois of a fertilized SPF (specific pathogen free) chicken egg, (2) separating and disintegrating the schizont formed by the growth of the sporozoite, and (3) inactivating the schizont (e.g. by the use of an inactivating agent such as formalin). When a chicken is inoculated with the vaccine, the chicken aquires the immunity against Leucocytozoon caulleryi. The immunity effect can be improved by the combined use of Lavamisole as an adjuvant.
