Abstract

PURPOSE: To hot-melt adhesive neither cured nor embittled at a low temp. and not fluidized at a high temp. which is prept. by molting and mixing a mixt. consisting of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and a specified (meth) acrylate ester in the presence of an org. peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: A mixt. consisting of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, and a monomer primarily composed of a (meth) acrylate ester and giving a polymer of glass transition temp. ≤-30°C, is molten and mixed in the presence of an org. peroxide to polymerize the monomer component. Although the polymer composition thus prepared is usable itself as a hog-melt adhesive or sealant, it is pref. compounded with a tackifying resin and, if necessary, with a softener for use as a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The poly (meth) acrylate varies in glass transition temp. depending on the type of the alkyl group. A monomer of glass transition temp. ≤-30°C is n-propyl acrylate (-48°C), lauryl methacrylate (-65°C), etc.
