Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform reaction of molten metal and Mg or Mg alloy surely through simple operation by loading the Mg, or Mg alloy on a ladle bottom in such a way as not to contact with the molten metal, and providing a means of bringing the same in contact with the molten metal upon completion of tapping.
CONSTITUTION: A crescent-shaped recess 2 is delineated in the bottom part of a ladle 1 by a partition wall 5. Mg or Mg alloy 3 is loaded in this recess 2, and a shield member 6 such as metallic plate fitting in the recess 2 is inserted thereon. An operating rod 7 is connected orthogonally to the top surface slide of the member 6, and a cover material 4' is kept put on and loaded. Thence, molten metal is tapped into the ladle 1, and immediately upon completion of the tapping, the rod 7 is moved upward to remove the member 6 from the recess 2. Then, the molten metal and the Mg or Mg alloy 3 contact immediately, and the reaction is accomplished surely.
