Abstract
PURPOSE: To reaction product from 3-methyl-5-hydroxypyrazole and a halogenoacetic acid is made to react with a benzoic acid and followed by decarboxylation to give the titled compound by no use of methylhydrazine.
CONSTITUTION: 3-Methyl-5-hydroxypyrazole reacts with a halogenoacetic acid to give 1-carboxymethyl-3-methyl-5-hydroxypyrazole, which is made to react with a benzoic acid in the presence of a catalyst such as aluminum chloride form a 1- carboxymethyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-hydroxypyrazole. Finally, the product is decarboxylated to give 1,3-dimethyl-4-benzoyl-5-hydroxypyrazole of the formula (X is halogen, nitro; Y is halogen, nitro, trifluromethyl, methylsulfonyl).
