Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve cooling capacity and obtain high cooling speed with a small quantity of water by arranging nozzle groups for cooling in two stages to the surface of a steel material being carried, and specifying spray angle from nozzle group of each stage and quantity of cooling water from the second stage.
CONSTITUTION: Cooling water from a cooling nozzle group of the first stage is made to strike against the surface of a steel material under transportation at an incident angle of 30W35°. Further, cooling wafer from a nozzle group of the second stage arranged at a position where the effective water quantity density starts to drop is made to strike against the steel surface at an incident angle of 30W40°. The quantity of cooling water from the nozzle group of the second stage is regulated so that it is within the range of 30W40% of the total cooling water. When these two conditions are satisfied at the same time, the steel material being carried at a large carrying speed can be cooled sufficiently with the same quantity of water as in the case where cooling is made by one nozzle group.
