Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the interference echoes between adjacent probes practically harmless in flaw detection by mutually shifting the appearance positions of the interference echoes. CONSTITUTION:With probes 1b and 3b as well as 2b and 4b existing in positons where they do not mutually adjoin respectively as one set, the synchronizing signal from a synchronizing signal generator 10 for the probes of the other set with respect to the probes of one set is delayed by a prescribed time (t) by a delay circuit 20. The timings of excitation to the probes 1b, 3b from ultrasonic wave transmitters 31, 33 are deviated from the excitation timings to the probes 2b, 4b from ultrasonic wave transmitters 32, 34. The time td to be deviated is determined by determining the time when interference echoes appear and finding such a time when the interference echoes appear earlier than the start point of a flaw detection gate.
