PURPOSE:To realize a highly efficient substituting process of words, by indicating full sentence substitution after designating the words to be substituted with each other and then securing an automatic substitution between the word to be substituted and the substitute word in a document holding part. CONSTITUTION:An operator selects full sentence substitution and keys in the document No. Thus the corresponding document is read and stored in a document buffer 7. When the operator keys in both the word to be substituted and the substitute word, the word to be substituted is set to a buffer 5 for word to be substituted with the substitute word set to a substitute word buffer 4, respectively. When an execution key is pushed under such conditions, the document in the buffer 7 is sent to a display part 11 for display via a document producing/replacing part 8, a screen control part 9 and a screen buffer 10, respectively. At the same time, whether or not a word equal to the word to be substituted exists in the document read out of the buffer 7 is checked. Then the corresponding word is substituted with the substitute word. A counter 6 that counts the number of substituting frequencies receives +1 for every substitution.
