Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the bacteria harmful for beer brewing with high likelihood ratios by mixing two kinds of antiserums obtd. with bacteria belonging to a lactobacillus genus and a bacyllus genus respectively as antigens, bringing these as factor antibodies into contact with the bacteria to be examined, and causing slide agglutination reaction. CONSTITUTION:Two kinds of the antiserums obtd. by immunizing rabbits respectively with lactobacillus brevis BSRI-4 strain and bacillus asporogenic variant sp. BSR17-6 strain are mixed. If the slide agglutination reaction of the harmful bacteria propagating in beer is carried out by using such mixed serums, agglutination is shown in all the harmful bacteria and the reaction is positive. Whereas, the reaction is positive in some cases for part of a certain kind of unharmful bacteria as well. As against this, the above-described mixed serums are subjected to absorption treatment with bacillus licheniformis or bacillus aneurinolyticus strain, whereby the exhibition of positive for the unharmful bacteria by the similar slide agglutination reaction is considerably reduced. In this way, the detection of the harmful bacteria is accomplished in a short time with high likelihood ratios.
