Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote the degradation of cellulose acetate caused by ultraviolet rays so as not to cause environmental pollution, by blending benzophenone or a specified substituted compd. thereof with cellulose acetate or depositing benzophenone or said subtituted compd. on the surface of cellulose acetate.
CONSTITUTION: Benzophenone or a substituted compd. thereof selected from p- nitrobenzophenone. 2,4-dichlorobenzophenone, 2,4'-dichlorobenzophenone, 4,4'- dimethylbenzophenone, 4-methylbenzophenone and 4-chlorobenzophenone, as a photolysis promotor, is blended with cellulose acetate or deposited on the surface of cellulose acetate to produce the titled compsn. This compsn. is used as a starting material to produce articles such as various disposable cellulose acetate plastic containers. When these articles become useless and are discarded outdoors, they are rapidly degraded and its strength is lowered so as not to cause environmental pollution.
