Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high fidelity through facilitating the recording and reproduction of still pictures with enabling a normal cassette deck, etc., to be used by using a sound magnetic tape for the recording and reproduction of still pictures and corresponding sound. CONSTITUTION:A composite video signal is processed by a color encoder COD and under the control of a control part CONT, a video signal for one screen is converted by A/D converters A/D1 and A/D2 into digital signals, which are stored in memories MM1 and MM2. Those storage contents are read out to a D/A converter DAC with low-speed readout control signals CS4 and CS5 to be converted into analog signals, and FM modulates MOD1 and MOD2 perform the angular-speed modulation of a carrier signal in a sound signal band; and the modulted signals are mixed together through mixers MIX1 and MIX2 after their bands are limited and the mixture signal is recorded on a magnetic tape. Then, signals from the tape are demodulated by FM demodulators DEM1 and DEM2 and converted into digital signals, which are stored in the memories MM1 and MM2 at a low speed. Then, the contents are read out at the same speed with the storage of the video signal and converted into analog signals to display a still picture on a display device CRT.
