Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the stopping probability of a magnetic tape and to increase the processing efficiency, by continuing the production of IBG up to a certain length if a command is sent from an upper device after a data block is written onto the magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:A command sent from an upper device C is sent to a modulating circuit 12 via a decoder 10. The data sent to the circuit 12 is modulated, and the prescribed data blocks 2 and 3 are written on a magnetic tape medium 1 through a magnetic head 22. At the same time, the output of the decoder 10 is sent to an IBG control circuit 11, and a signal is produced at the moment when a tachometer 20 produces an IBG5 of a prescribed length. Then a coincidence signal is sent to the circuit 11. If no writing command is given at that moment from the device C, an IBG is produced with a prescribed length from position A to B. When a command is given, the tape 1 is stopped at position B as long as the writing is not made started at position B. In such a way, the stopping probability can be reduced for the tape 1 to increase the processing efficiency.
