Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure the play of the steering wheel simply and securely by fixing one of a pointer or a scale board to a rotating part of the steering wheel, fixing the other to a point which is not associated with the rotation, and identifying the relative positions of both. CONSTITUTION:The device is constituted by two parts, the pointer and the scale board. One of them is fixed to the rotating part of the steering wheel and the other is fixed to an immobile part such as a windshield glass so as not to be displaced by the rotation of the steering wheel. Under this state, the steering wheel is rotated by the amount of the play, and it is measured from the relative positions of the pointer and the scale board. For example, the scale board 4 is fixed to the sterring wheel 1 by engaging pieces 4a and 4b, and a pointer plate 13 to which the pointer 15 is attached is fixed to the windshield glass F by a sucking board 6 via a rod 5. The amount of the play is mesured from the shift of the relative positions between the pointer 15 and te scale board 4 when the steering wheel is rotated by the amount of the play.
