Abstract

PURPOSE: To hydrogenate a compound having an aliphatic carbon-carbon unsaturated bond easily with a high efficiency industrially and advantageously, by the presence of a base and an acid in the reaction system in hydrogenating the unsaturated compound with an arylsulfonyl hydrazide.
CONSTITUTION: An unsaturated compound having an aliphatic carbon-carbon double or triple bond is hydrogenated with an arylsulfonyl hydrazide, e.g. benzenesulfonyl hydrazide or p-toluenesulfonyl hydrazide, in the presence of a base and an acid. The presence of the base and the acid accelerates the hydrogenating reaction remarkably and buffers the reaction solvent. The unsaturated compound can be hydrogenated in a short time effectively even under mild conditions of 100°C or below with a smaller amount of the arylsulfonyl hydrazide than the conventional method.
