Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a remedy for radioinflammation and Cushing's ulcer, having low toxicity and no side effects, by using a water-soluble salt of alignic acid as an active component.
CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble salt (e.g. Na salt, K salt, etc.) of alginic acid is used as an active component. Alginic acid is a polysaccharide (constituted with D- mannuronic acid and L-gluronic acid) belonging to polyuronic acid which exists in the form of Ca salt or Mg salt in the cell wall and between the cells of brown algae such as tangle, kajime, etc., and can be obtained by extracting the algae with dilute alkaline solution and purifying as an Na salt. The average molecular weight of the water-soluble salt of alginic acid is usually pref. 60,000W250,000. The agent rapidly improves the subjective symptoms of acute or chronic radioinfammation (e.g. radioesophagatis, rectitis, tongue sore, etc.) caused by the radiation exposure in radiotherapy, and improves the sore of the membrane. It also reduces the frequency of bleeding also in Cushing's ulcer. Administered orally, through nose, rectum, or endoscope.
