Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of crops generated at the front and rear ends of the top and bottom of an ingot, and to improve the yield of the blooming process, by forming a recess at each of the top and bottom of a material to be rolled at an early stage of a rolling process, and by rolling the unrolled middle part so as to reduce its thickness to a size equal to the thickness of this recess. CONSTITUTION:An initial pass of a rolling process for an ingot 2 is carried out by a horizontal roll stand so as to reduce the thichness, and a recess 8 with 400-590mm. lingitudinal terminal end thickness is formed at the front and rear ends of the top and bottom of the ingot 2 by reducing the thichness at a strength. The unrolled middle part 10 is then rolled to reduce its thickness to a size approximately equal to the thickness of the recess 8. The ingot 2 is then rolled to a prescribed size by a vertical roll stand and horizontal roll stand. By the present method, the generation of an overlap at the font and rear ends of the ingot is restricted so that the blooming process can be performed with a high yield.
