NEW MATERIAL:An azetidinone derivative expressed by formula I (R1 is H or a protecting group of the amino group; R2 is a protecting group of the amino group or R1 and R2 together form a protecting group of the amino group; R3 is alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group; -COB is carboxyl or protected carboxyl group; n is 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: 3S-Benzamido-4R-( 2'-bensothiazolyldithio)-1-( 1'-diphenylmethoxycarbonyl-2'-hydroxymethyl-2'-hydroxymethyl-2'-propen-1'-yl)azetidin-2-one.
USE: A synthetic intermediate for an antibiotic.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a mercaptan expressed by the formula R3-SH to give the compound expressed by formula I (n is 2), which is then reacted with a trivalent phosphorus compound expressed by the formula (R4)3P(R4 is alkyl, aryl or alkoxyl) to afford the compound expressed by formula I (n is 1).
