Abstract

PURPOSE: A powder paint composition having improved finished appearance such as smoothness or clarity, which is obtd. by compounding a glycidyl group-contg. acrylic copolymer with a dibasic carboxylic acid and a dibasic carboxylic acid alkyl ester.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. Acrylic copolymer (A) of glass transition temp 10W 75°C and number-average MW 1,500W30,000, prepared by the copolymerization of 5W40wt% glycidyl group-contg. monomer with 95W60wt% ethylenically unsaturated monomer, 1W40pts.wt. dibasic carboxylic acid (B) and 0.1W10pts.wt. at least one selected from a monoalkyl ester and a dialkyl ester of a dibasic carboxylic acid, are compounded. When the amount of glycidyl group-contg. monomer, in copolymer A is less than 5wt% based on the total monomer, coat strength and adhesion to a metal are lowered, while when more than 40wt%, smoothness of the coated face is lowered because of an excessive curing.
