PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of consumption of paper through extracting a pattern from a table at a character unit position where column and row are exchanged and printing the pattern in the column direction so as to extend over the group of the pattern, by rotating a pattern on a character pattern table of a printer at 90 deg. and storing the same. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern obtained by rotating a character at 90 deg. in every character is stored on a character pattern table 10 of a printer 8, and for character train units that is read from an external storage device 5 to a main storage device 4, the conversion between columns and rows performed as a group in a CPU3. The character unit groups array-converted by CPU3 are supplied to a printer 8 via a channel 7. Still more, the character pattern rotated by 90 deg. is extracted from the table 10 in character unit groups converted already in arrangement, and is printed in the column direction for character units converted already in arrangement so as to extend over the group. Through the process, the amount of consumption of printing paper is reduced, and custody for the paper is made easy through folding the paper of one column in character unit group and keeping the same.
