Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the wave making resistance on the voyage, by attaching a flare-shaped structure to the conjoined part of the lower body and strut of a semisubmerged catamaran at least at the front end of the hull to smooth the curve of distribution of cross-sectional area of the hull under the water level.
CONSTITUTION: A catamaran comprises a lower body 01 which is located under the waver level, a strut 02 which couples the lower body 01 to the upper body 03, etc. A flare-shaped structure 8 is attached to the front end of the conjoined part of the lower body 01 and the struct 02. The structure 8 is shaped so that its cross- sectional area gradually increases backward and gradually decreases to zero backward further. The curve of distribution of the sum of the cross-sectional areas of the lower body 01 and the strut 02 is smoothly varied by the flare-shaped structure 8 in the longitudinal direction of the hull to reduce resistance, particularly the wave making resistance, on the voyage.
