Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform titled operation smoothly as well when changing types of strips by interposing a dummy strip of gradually changed sectional area values to the trailing end of a preceding strip and connecting a succeeding strip thereto. CONSTITUTION:At the time of connecting a thicker strip B to the trailing end of, for example, a strip A, both side edges in the range of length L at the leading end of the strip B are diagonally cut to form the width size to a convergently tapered shape. This leading end is connected to the trailing end of the strip A by suitable means such as welding. In this way, the width size of a dummy strip C interposed between the strips A and B is gradually changed so that the occurrence of an abrupt change in the sectional area values is obviated. Then, the joint of the strip is prevented from excessively rising or lowering in a heat treatment furnace, and the smooth operation is accomplished.
