Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the erosion of refractories in the peripheral part of a trunnion and considerably improve the life of a converter without causing problems such as shell deformation and the like at all by easily and effectively cooling said refractories via the shell of the converter.
CONSTITUTION: A refrigerant supply pipe 7 provided with a header part 13 having plural refrigerant injection holes 8 at the leading end is inserted into a hollow trunnion shaft 4, and is located near the surface in a trunnion ring 5. Refrigerant such as water, low pressure steam is injected through the holes 8 to cool the lining refractories in the peripheral part of the trunnion through a shell 2 of the converter, thereby suppressing their erosion. Since the holes 8 are plural and are provided in a semispherical normal direction, the refractories 3 are cooled over an extremely wide range in a space of just about 100mm near the cooling part. Nevertheless, there is not such a phenomenon that the refrigerant excessively cools the shell surface, and most of the refrigerant is evaporated and ascends.
