Abstract

PURPOSE:To utilize a wide band property of an optical area without requiring a wide band in an electric circuit part, by modulating the frequency of a carrier laser (CL) beam by an electric signal, and transmitting it. CONSTITUTION:A high fine picture electric signal which is led into an input terminal 1 in a transmission side A is applied to CL oscillator 3 (center frequency fc) whose wave length is variable, through a driving electric circuit part 2, an optical FM signal is generated, and it is transmitted to a receiving side B through an optical fiber cabel 8 together with a pilot laser (PL) beam (frequency fp). The received light beam is synthesized with a light beam from a local laser (LL) oscillator 9 whose length is variable, and is led to an optical discriminator 13 having a frequency characteristic as shown in the figure M. Only the PL light beam and the LL light beam pass through 13, are led to a photodetector 13, are homodyne-detected, and an output ot the photdetector 14 is outputted as a demodulated electric signal to an output terminal 16 through a receiving circuit part 15.
