Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound having low viscosity and giving a cured product having excellent heat resistance, by carrying out the addition reaction of epichlorohydrin and aminophenol in the presence of a halogenated phosphonium salt, and subjecting the product to the dehydrochlorination reaction.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 1 mol of an aminophenol (or its alkyl-substituted product), pref. p-aminophenol, is subjected to the addition reaction with (B) pref. 9W12mol of epichlorohydrin in the presence of a halogenated phosphonium salt catalyst (e.g. chloro-tetra (n-butyl) phosphonium salt), pref. at 40W50°C for 10W20hours. The objective compound can be prepared by the dehydrochlorination reaction of the above addition reaction product at ≤50°C for 2W10hours, usually in lthe presence of an alkali metal hydroxide such as NaOH, a quaternary ammonium salt, etc. The amount of the phosphonium salt catalyst is pref. 0.5W3wt%, based on the component (A).
