Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate mounting, dismounting and transporting of the outboard engine by providing a pair of handholds at each side of a cowling containing the engine unit, and arranging them symmetric with respect to a line passing through the center of gravity of the outboard engine and extending in the longitudinal direction.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of handholds 11b, 11c are provided at each side of outer bottom of a bottom cowling 11. These handholds 11b, 11c are formed as a deeply indented groove protruding upward, and arranged symmetric relative to a line passing through the center of gravity of the outboard engine and the drive shaft of the same. The above stated handhold is made long enough for an operator to securely hold it with four fingers and deep enough to receive up to the first joints of operator's four fingers.
