Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance for the mass-culture of cellular tissue, having excellent mechanical strengnth, durability, etc., by irradiating the surface of synthetic resin particles with β-rays until the absorbed β-ray dose reached ≥7Mrad.
CONSTITUTION: Particles of synthetic resin such as polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, polyethylene, etc. are prepared by the conventional polymerization process. The surface of the particle is irradiated with β-rays by the use of an electron accelerator until the β-ray dose absorbed to the particle reaches ≥7Mrad. The carrier particles thus obtained has excellent mechanical strengths and durability, uniform particle size, and high hydrophilic properties.
