Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an effect which is given to the result of detection by the state of surface or the direction of an object, by distributing 3 receiving elements with a prescribed space and obtaining the information on the position of the object with each optional combination of the receiving elements. CONSTITUTION:An object position detector 11 contains an ultrasonic wave transmittig element T and 3 ultrasonic wave receiving elements R-1,...R0, R1, R2.... When the position of an object O is detected, the pulse wave, i.e., the ultrasonic carrier wave sent from the element T is first reflected at the object O. This reflected pulse is detected by the element R. In this case, the position information on the object O is obtained based on the time required from the transmission to the reception and with each combination of optional two elements R among plural ones. The position information is averaged to detect the position of the object O.
