Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain high electron emission efficiency by previously adding cesium oxide into an emitter subsistance prior to the thermal treatment thereby ensuring a thin hole for passing the electron in an emitter while employing an emitter subsistance having large specific surface area. CONSTITUTION:An emitter subsistance is held at the tip of a conductor then it is thermally processed to produce an electrode. Cesium oxide is previously added into said emitter subsistance prior to the thermal treatment. The amount of said cesium oxide to be added is selected to be 2-30wt% against the emitter subsistance. Cesium oxide powder having the grain size of 2-20mum is preferable.
