Abstract

PURPOSE: A serum is collected from a nonhuman animal which is immunized with M-protein to produce the titled protein and vaccine used in prevention and treatment for infections caused by group-A hemolytic streptococci.
CONSTITUTION: A nonhuman animal is immunized with M-protein that has following physical and chemical properties: appearance, white powder; solubility, soluble in water; molecular weight, 160,000W180,000; chemical composition; total phosphorus, 0.1W0.15%; methyl pentose, 0.7W1.0%; total aminoacid, 70W80%; the precipitation reaction is agar gel, 1 prepciptation line to anti-M serum and serums separated into every antibody group and no line to antilipoteichoic serum, further characteristically high antiopsonization activity, immunogenecity and human complement activation. Then, a serum is collected from the animal to produce antiserum or antibody against group A hemolystic streptococci. When it is immunized by no use of adjuvant, high antibody value is obtained and the product is used as a vaccine of low toxicity.
