Abstract

PURPOSE: To add an optimal amount of a neutralizing agent rapidly and accurately, reduce the preparation cost, rationalize the washing step, etc. and age cellulose acetate, by using measured values of electric conductivity of an aging reaction solution as a sensing means.
CONSTITUTION: An aging reactor of the vertical cylindrical reactor type with a jacket and an agitator having a body of a good conductor made of stainless steel is used, and electrodes for measuring the electric conductivity are provided near the dischargeing outlet of the bottom thereof. The electric conductivity of the reaction system is measured at a solution thickness of 20cm, and the relation between the time and electric conductivity is used as a monitoring means to add an optimal amount of an aqueous solution of a neutralizing agent, e.g. sodium acetate, and age the cellulose acetate.
