Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a discoid recording medium, where signals are recorded and reproduced optically, from deforming owing to its drooping during a still// state, by elevating an upwardly and downwardly movable holding member when the recording medium stops, and thus holding the discoid recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A disk 1 is mounted on a turntable 2 and retained with a cap 4, and while the disk 1 is rotated around a spindle 3, an optical system 6 makes a scanning. When the rotation is stopped, a detector which is not shown in the figure detects that, and plungers 10a and 10b are supplied current to attract levers 9a and 9b. The end parts 12a-12b' of four L-shaped metallic fixtures (8a, 12a)-(8b', r2b') couple with the levers 9a and 9b to elevate upwardly and downwardly movable arc-shaped holding members 7a and 7b, thereby holding the disk 1 in contact with the large part 5 of the circumferential part. Once the rotation is started, the plungers 10a and 10b are shut down and the holding members 7a and 7b are lowered. Thus, the disk at a still is supported at its circumferential part to prevent its deformation due to drooping.
