Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a rubber material having excellent water-expandability and mechanical strength, by vulcanizing a mixture consisting of a solution polymerized styrene/butadiene rubber and a specified hydrophilic block polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrophilic block polymer (wherein the weight ratio of a hydrophilic component to a lipophilic component is 80/20W50/50) obtd. by the random addition polymerization of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide in a weight ratio of 90/10W20/80 with liquid polybutadiene having a hydroxyl group at its terminal or a liquid styrene/butadiene copolymer having an MW of 500W 5000, is used. 10W50pts.wt.above hydrophilic polymer and a crosslinking agent, pref. a sulfur vulcanizing agent for rubber, are kneaded with 100pts.wt. solution- polymerized styrene/butadiene rubber. The resulting compsn. is molded into a required shape and crosslinked.
