Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled surface modifier which is easy to produce and treat and effective even in a small amount, consisting of a specified aluminum compound having an alkoxy group (hydroxy group), a carboxyl group and a sulfonic acid group.
CONSTITUTION: As a surface modifier for a particulate substance having a hydrophilic surface (e.g., calcium carbonate, kaolin, or phthalocyanine blue), there is used in an amount of about 0.1W20wt% based on particulate substance) an aluminum compound represented by formulaI, wherein R1 is H or a 1W6C alkyl, R3 is R4 or R5O-, R2, R4 and R5 are each a 1W22C alkyl, cycloalkyl, a 3W22C alkenyl, an aryl, an aralkyl or an alkylaryl (where one of R2 and R3 is an 8C or higher substituent), m is 0.5W2, n is 0.3W2 and m+n=0.8W2.7. Said compound is produced by reacting an aluminum alcoholate with a carboxylic acid and a sulfonic acid (for example, according to reaction formula II).
