CONSTITUTION:An input device main body 21 for a tape reader is installed between an optical reader 19 of the tape reader of a controlling processor 4 for a plurality of machine tools and a tape 15, and is provided with a photodetector group 22 and a light emitting element group 23. A light from a lamp box 18 irradiates the surface of the tape 15 to produce a contrast on the element group in response to punched holes 15a of the tape. Then, the element group 22 produces an electric signal, which is inputted to a CPU 25 via a processing circuit 24 and again outputted to the circuit 24 after required processing in the CPU 25. Further, the circuit 24 drives the element group 23 in response to a pattern corresponding to a signal processed in the CPU 25.
