Abstract

PURPOSE:To check the growth of a harmful film grown on a sliding surface by sliding to a tape without missing the magnetic characteristics of an alloy by a method wherein Ru is added to a Fe-Si-Al alloy. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic alloy for magnetic head core is composed of 5-12% Si, 3-9% Al, 2-20% Ru, and Fe of residual. The reason why the Si content and Al content are limited to 5-12%, 3-9% respectively in this alloy is that effective permeability decreases when either of the Si content and Al content is below the lower limit or exceeds the upper limit and the function of a core material for magnetic head will be lost. The reason why the Ru content is limited to 2-20% is that sufficient checking effect for film growth will not be obtained under 2% and effective permeability decreases when the content exceeds 20% and the function of a core material for magnetic head will be lost.
