Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture an element easily and also to make a control range of weighting wide, by changing the length of a grating in the direction meeting at right angles with the propagating direction of a light beam in a waveguide path, depending on each position. CONSTITUTION:Height of each grating 20 which is constituted in a waveguide path 10 is constant, and length of the grating 20 in the direction meeting at right angles with the propagating direction of a light beam is made variable. As a result, since the extent of radiation of a light beam radiated from each grating 20 is proportional to the length of each grating 20, the length of each grating is set so as to be proportional to a desired extent of weighting. Since it is unnecessary to change the height of each grating 20, it is possible to make a range of weighting wide and also make its accuracy satisfactory, and furthermore, its element can be manufactured easily.
