Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent deposition of polymer on the inner wall of a flash feed conduit through which a polymer and a solvent vapor are fed to a flashing tank and to thereby separate the polymer effectively by flash evaporation, by using a heated, enlarged profile pipe as said flash feed conduit.
CONSTITUTION: In separating and recovering a polymer by flashing a polymer solution which is heated in a heater under a pressure higher than the equilibrium pressure of the solvent-vapor system at the temperature in the heater, there is used, as the flash feed conduit, an enlarged profile pipe (major diameter/minor diameter ratio of the crosssection about 1W3, pipe length/major diameters crosssection at the downstream end about 1.5W4, ratio between major diameters of crosssections at the downstream and upstream ends about 1.2W2) maintained at an inner wall temperature ≥140°C. As the flashing tank, there is preferred a cyclone operating under conditions of inner surface temperature ≥180°C, internal pressure normal to 5kg/cm2 at gauge.
