A cartridge information detection part 22 detects a photographic film speed by a signal given to a cartridge. A data imprinting control part 26 uses the output of the photodetecting element 7 of a light emitting and photodetecting part 20 which shows the illuminance of the small part accompanying the release of a shutter, and a film speed signal and a film type signal from output lines 24a and 24b to calculate the amount of light emission of the light emitting element for data imprinting, thereby turning on the light emitting element immediately after said calculation.
