Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to produce a uniform scorch pattern constantly irrespective of changes in conditions, by a method wherein a main body comprising a roasting chamber is provided with a photoelectric converting part, and a heat source is controlled by detecting a reflectivity of light proportional to the scorch pattern on the object to be roasted by the photoelectric converting part. CONSTITUTION:When putting a slice of bread 5 on a net 6 and roasting it by passing an electric current to a heater 7, the bread 5 before being roasted has a high reflectivity, the reflected light of a tungsten bulb 10 used as a light source is focused by a focusing lens 13 and is received by the photoelectric converting part 15. A capacitor 19 is charged by an output from the converting part 15. When a switch 17 is changed over to a terminal c, an electric current is supplied to the heater 7 to start roasting, and the reflectivity is lowered as the scorch pattern on the bread 5 is thickened. When the output from the converting part 15 coincides with an output set by a variable resistance 21, the supply of current to the heater 7 is cut off by an output from a differential amplifier 23, and the capacitor 19 is discharged by the turning-on of the switch 22 to obtain a reset condition.
