Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a simple and accurate estimation of the storage stability of a mixture of powdery coal and oil, in a short time, by measuring the viscosity of the mixture under a specific extremely low rate of shear using a rotational viscometer.
CONSTITUTION: The stability of a powdery coal-oil mixture (COM) is estimated by leaving the mixture at rest at a high temperature of preferably ≥85°C for ≥5 minutes, measuring the viscosity at an extremely low rate of shear of ≤0.8 sec-1 with a rotational viscometer, and if necessary, determining the difference of the viscosity measured at the extremely low rate of shear and that measured at a high rate of shear of ≥2 sec-1.
