Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a tape guide which is superior in wear resistance and does not damage a tape, by providing plural grooves on one face of the plate consisting of a nonmagnetic material and forming this plate into a cylinder having this face outside and polishing this cylinder and forming a high-hardness surface layer. CONSTITUTION:A plate-shaped material consisting of a nonmagnetic material is rolled by a roller, which has many parallel equilateral triangle-shaped projections, and a flat roll to provide grooves 20 and is formed to a rectangle having prescribed dimensions, and a cylindrical base material 17 having grooves outside is formed. The base material 17 is barrel-polished by abrasives such as an alundum to chamfer edge parts of grooves 20. The surface of the base material 17 is plated with chromium for forming a high-hardness surface layer 18. Next, the base material is barrel-polished by an alundum or the like. This cylinder is stood between the upper part and the lower part of the box body of a tape cassette and is used as a tape guide.
