Abstract
PURPOSE: To carry out the dealkylation of an alkylaromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of steam, keeping high reactivity and high selectivity of the catalyst, by using a catalyst composed of a metal component consisting of a platinum group metal, V, and Zr or Sn supported by alumina carrier.
CONSTITUTION: The titled reaction is carried out in the presence of steam using a catalyst obtained by supporting a metal component consisting of (A) a platinum-group metal (e.g. rhodium), (B) V, and (C) Zr or Sn on an alumina carrier. The specific surface area of the alumina is preferably relatively large, i.e. about 80W350m2/g, and the amounts of the components (A), (B) and (C) supported on the carrier are preferably 0.4W2wt%, 1W2.5wt% and 0.1W1wt%, respectively.
EFFECT: The by-produced hydrogen can be easily purified because there is little by-production of CH4, CO and CO2, and the hydrogen is obtained in high purity and yield. The change of the catalytic activity with time is little.
