Abstract
PURPOSE:To encode scanning lines by noticing that the correlation between scanning lines of a half tone pictur is intensified, so as to divide a picture element with the density as the scanning line just before the one whose encoding has been already completed a scanning line to be encoded into blocks to encode it in every continuous block. CONSTITUTION:After completing initializing in every block, a picture element CP(I) of an encoding scanning line and a picture element HP (I) of a reference scanning line are inputted in every picture element. The picture element HP (I) is compared with the one HP (I-1) just before the HP (I) to detect a block division and add the block size and the picture element CP (I) is compared with the one CP (I-1) just before the CP (I) to calculate the difference of picture elements in the block, store the difference in a RAM and determine the mode. When the HP (I) is different from the HP (I-1), reading of picture elements is suspended once to discriminate the mode, encode a scanning line and output the encoded scanning line. The mode is discriminated by referring a mode selecting register and, in case of a skip mode S and a non-skip mode D, the discrimination code ''0'' and ''1'' are outputted respectively to a buffer 15.
