Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrochemical generation element which is prevented from being damaged during the time when it is pressed by stacking two carbonic-fiber sheets together, with a conductive carbonic film interposed between them befor gas-flow paths are provided on the upper and the lower surfaces of the stacked body so as to obtain an element, and laminating thus obtained elements before they are pressed. CONSTITUTION:A laminated element 21 is formed by providing a first and a third layer 2 and 3 which are made of carbonic-fiber sheets on the upper and the lower surfaces of an airtight conductive carbonic layer 1. Next, grooves 12 and grooves 11 are provided on the outer surfaces of the first and the third layers 2 and 3 at appropriate pitches so as to form paths for an oxidizing gas and a reducing gas, respectively. Then, a unit generation element 22, which is prepared by unifying carbonic-fiber electrode base-bodies 4 and 7 holding catalyst layers 5 and 8 by interposing an electrolyte impregnated matrix layer 6 between them, is provided between two laminated elements 21. After that, number of thus obtained units are laminated so as to make a generation element group 30, and the units each consisting of one unit generation element 22 and two laminated elements 21 are pressed and combined. Since the pressing force used here is dispersed homogeneously within the unit generation elements 22, and defect such as a break is prevented from developing.
