Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a photoconductive layer with high image retentivity and high moisture resistance by grinding photoconductive sulfide powder in the presence of a polymerizing low molecular compound, mixing the resulting powder with a setting resin while dispersing, and applying the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Photoconductive sulfide powder such as CdS powder is ground with a ball mill in the presence of a polymerizing low molecular compound such as styrene, propylene or methyl methacrylate to produce a surface modifying effect by violent interaction between the active surface of the powder and the compound, e.g., chemical adsorption or reaction on the surface. The resulting powder is mixed with a setting resin such as acrylic resin or epoxy resin, and the mixture is set. The compound bonded to the surface of the powder reacts with the resin, and the powder is dispersed very well in the resin. Thus, a photoconductive layer with high image retentivity and high moisture resistance is formed.
