Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the tensile strength, etc. of a lens obtd. by using divinyl dicarboxylate as a crosslinking agent for a contact lens material consisting essentially of mono(meth)acrylate of alkylene glycol. CONSTITUTION:About 0.1-1.8mol% divinyl dicarboxylate is compounded as a crosslinking agent with a main raw material consisting of about 72-98mol% mono(meth)acrylate of alkylene glycol and about 28-2mol% methacrylic acid deriv. and these are polymerized. An intended contact lens is obtained by using the resultant polymer as a blank material. The compd. expressed by the formula (R is C1-C10 hydrocarbon) is preferable and divinyl dicarboxylate, and divinyl adipate, divinyl malonate, etc. are exemplified. The resultant contact lens is highly strong and tough, and despite of its decreased thickness, sufficient strength is obtained; therefore, it is possible to improve oxygen permeability by reducing the thickness.
