Abstract

PURPOSE:To separate an aromatic water soluble substance from an aqueous eluate, by using a copolymer of a vinyl monomer having a phenyl radical and a non-dissociative vinyl monomer having >=10.0 solubility parameter. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer of a hydrophobic monomer and a hydrophillic monomer is used for a packing agent for liquid chromatography. Separating capacity for an aromatic substance is given by using the hydrophobic monomer as a copolymer component and also, the separating capacity from an aqueous eluate is given by the hydrophillic monomer. A vinyl monomer having a phenyl radical e.g. styrene, vinyl toluene etc. is used for the hydrophobic monomer and a non-dissociative vinyl monomer having >=10.0 solubility parameter and having >=8.4 solubility parameter of the copolymer, e.g. a vinyl monomer having an ethylene glycol radical, a hydoxyl radical etc., is used for the hydrophillic monomer.
