Abstract

PURPOSE: To coat the surface of a base metal with a layer of other metal by sticking powder of a halide of other metal to the surface of the base metal and causing a substitution reaction between the metallic halide and the base metal by heating.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a base metal such as Fe, Ti or Al is degreased and washed, and powder of a metallic halide such as copper chloride, tin chloride, zinc chloride, tin iodide or silver bromide is stuck to the surface with an electrostatic powder gun or the like. A substitution reaction is then caused between the metallic halide and the base metal by heating. After the reaction the base metal is cooled, and the reaction product residue and the unreacted residue are removed. Thus, the surface of the base metal can be coated with other desired metal.
